Well, strike up the band and pull out
the beer!
The Federal Government, courtesy of
FEMA, have given the Methodists 66 MILLION bucks for "counseling"
services in the wake of Katrina.
I don't know. That seems an
awful lot of money for something like that.
Here I thought that churches gave
pastoral counseling. With moola like this, you would think
they were bringing in Dr Phil and Dr Laura!
You know they will be trying to tell
people that only that dude who didn't run from the Romans fast
enough can help them through whatever it is they have gone through.
The Feds have no business giving a
church that kind of money, especially taxpayers money!
Churches are supposed to give aid and comfort based on their own
local donations. At that point, they can talk all they want
about religion. I do not want my own tax dollars going to
support a religion I don't believe in. Fuck that!
How about the Federal Government
actually puts that money were it'll do some good, rather than
helping to support Christianity? There are a hell of a lot
more religions in this country than Christianity, but the
Republicans sure don't want to recognize that. As far as
they're concerned, the US is all Christian.
They don't seem to realize that
shortly after the founding of this country, we signed a treaty with
the Muslims of Tripoli
that specifically stated that the United States was in no way
founded on the Christian faith.
But I have a feeling that even if you
were to blow it up to dining room table size and wave it in their
faces, they would go selectively blind.
At the very least, these Methodists
who got the money should have to account for every single cent they
spend, and none of it should be found to have gone to religious
purposes. If they have, then they can find a way to
immediately repay those funds. |
