Miers Withdraws From High Court
Consideration

In what shouldn't be a surprise,
Harriet Miers has removed her name from consideration for the post
of Supreme Court Justice. There's the normal song and dance
from the White House, saying it "reluctantly" accepted her
withdrawal, but everyone knows that the White House was trying to
find a way, any way, to extricate itself from the hole they had dug
for themselves.
You know its bad when both Democrats
and Republicans want more information on a candidate before backing
her. Normally, a candidate will have nearly unswerving support
from one side, but will have to jockey for enough votes from the
other to get accepted, unless, of course, one side has a clear
majority and can walk all over the acceptance process. This
time, however, Miers had little to no support on either side!
Congress was demanding more information from the White House and
Miers than either was willing to give. Miers answered a
questionnaire she was given a few weeks ago with answers vague
enough to make a covert operative proud. The likes of Senator
Arlen Specter said he wasn't satisfied with the answers she gave,
and he demanded more information. Makes one wonder what the
Shrub and his cronies had to hide. Miers quickly went from
golden girl to white elephant, politically. It's laughable
that the Administration thought they had a snowball's chance in Hell
of Miers surviving vetting by Congress. |
