Harriet Miers:  Her Ultra Conservative Slant

Bush has just declared about his latest Supreme Court pick, that for Harriet Miers "part of her life is her religion" and that she belongs to an ultraconservative church that is strongly pro-life.  He also claims that since she has no judicial experience, that means she will interpret the Constitution and "not legislate from the Bench."

Mr President, please explain to me how Ms Miers' having no judicial experience  means she will only interpret the Constitution?  That opinion is laughable.   Just because one has not been a Judge does not mean they won't attempt to legislate their particular way of thinking.  In fact, every time the Supreme Court makes a decision, they set precedent that shapes Law.

Now, in Ms Miers' case in particular, her avowed conservative Christian leanings will most definitely shape her decisions if she is allowed to take a seat on the Bench of the highest Court in the land.  If she believes that her faith requires her to act in a certain fashion, and I am most certain she does and would, she would, as soon as possible, act to overturn many of the freedoms that previous Courts have determined the American people enjoy, such as the right to choose whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term.
