Can We Get Our Act Together?

by Dody

What I'm about to address is going to seem irrelevant.  We Pagans, gripe, moan, piss, and generally raise hell, except when it requires putting down the remote or mouse and actually going somewhere to do something.

There are many Pagans and more everyday; however, I see little to no infrastructure to support these young "fledgling" Pagans or any Pagan in need.

So what?

Who said you had to be there?

Well, no one....but think of it this way.  If the your daughter is not allowed to wear her pentacle at school, but classmates wear crosses what do you do?  Sue?  Storm in and demand she be allowed? Get the ACLU involved?

What about when teachers push Christmas and Easter by sending home Christmas trees or Easter Eggs?  Do you explain what you believe and just accept it?

Aright maybe that's ok for YOU.  But I noticed my kids felt different.  I also noticed they perceived "different" as wrong.  Is it fair to our kids?  I had to resort to homeschooling.

With the current political climate how long do you think it will be until we are openly ridiculed and targeted?  Do you want your kids in the cross fire?

The only way to be sure Pagans everywhere have the support they need to ward off any suffering placed unduly by our government or other entity is to make that support ourselves.

Mormons have a great support network.  Christians have food banks, phone trees, social welfare organizations, schools, banks, health insurance, life insurance, ....I could go on.

Where are we and what are we doing for our fellow Pagans?  If Bush made it a law that you had to sign a paper stating you didn't believe in any terrorist ideals (like Muslim, Pagan, yada yada)  to get food stamps would you?  Would there be a Pagan group that could help you if you refused?  These are things we NEED to look at.  Not just because Paganism needs it, but because our survival as a people might depend on it.
